Herb Walker
Lincoln Patriots boys basketball's history invariably traces back to the name Herb Walker. Coming to Lincoln High in 1964, he almost immediately brought respect to the new and struggling boys basketball team. Coach Walker's leadership and motivational skills could be seen paying results even in the first season, as the team more than doubled its win total in 1964 from 4 to 9. Coach Walker would be the face of Lincoln basketball for years to come, standing on the sidelines for 22 years until his retirement in 1985, going out in style with a sectional championship that year. Hall of Fame Profile: Jeff McIntyre


Our latest Lincoln Basketball Hall of Fame profile is about a player no one who has followed Lincoln basketball over the years can forget. Jeff McIntyre, class of 1986, is generally regarded as the best basketball player ever to walk the Lincoln halls. It's hard to argue that point when you look at his career statistics—he's the Patriots all-time leading scorer with 1,296 points and he averaged an amazing 23 points per game in his senior season.

Patriot Memories


"I remember back in 1970 when Lincoln was playing Springfield in a very important Capital Conference game. We were down by two points with 6 seconds left in the game. David Smith inbounded the ball halfway down the court to Jeff DePaul who was at the top of the key. Somehow Jeff jumped, caught the ball and made an unbelievable turn around jumper over two defenders. The game went to overtime, Lincoln got the win and eventually won the conference."
